SDG - BLOG 3

One part of Sustainable Development Goal #3 (3.4.2) is to bring down the suicide death rate. During the current week's blog, I took a gander at Canada and what its nation is doing to help bring down the suicide death rate. Right now, there are around ten passings by suicide for every day in Canada (Suicide in Canada, 2019). While there are numerous parts of psychological wellness, suicide is one of the greatest issue individuals are confronting with respect to their emotional well-being. Indeed, passing by suicide is the ninth driving reason for death for individuals in Canada.

The Mental Health Strategy for Canada was built up in 2012. They will probably "Advance emotional wellness over the life expectancy in homes, schools, and working environments, and avert psychological sickness and suicide any place possible."(Mental Health,2019). The Mental Health Strategy for Canada works with cops, firemen and police dispatchers to prepare them to converse with individuals who are thinking about suicide.

Canada as a nation is tending to suicide by financing research for anticipation. Since 2000, Canada has expanded the measure of research they share about suicide from 2% to 6% in 2015. A few angles they are concentrating their exploration on is family ancestry of psychological maladjustment, social components, and introduction to brutality.

Another establishment devoted to forestalling suicide is known as The Life Line Canada. Something one of a kind to them is that they have an application for advanced cells that clients can download and it gives instruction, counteractive action procedures and above all, it can undoubtedly interface you to an emergency focus day in and day out.

In spite of the fact that Canada's suicide rate is still around 10 for each 100,000 individuals, it has dropped since the 1970's the place it was around 16 for each 100,000. Canada has focused on bringing down the quantity of passings by suicide and their advancement is appeared.

  1. Hi Folake,

Suicide is a serious issue, one I daresay has personally impacted me. I lost a friend to suicide a couple of years ago, so I am glad you have chosen it as your topic of interest for these postings. In regard to your post, is Life Line Canada a call line similar to our National Suicide Hotline, or is similar to an information phone application? Your post is not very clear as to what kind of helpful resource it is. It is interesting to note that “persons aged 40 to 59…. [making up] [f]orty-five percent of all suicides in 2009” (Navaneelan, 2017). I thought the rates would show to be more in favor of the younger populations. I am glad to see Canada is taking initiative and decreasing the number of deaths by suicide because of their successful applications of information and assistance to those in need. Suicide is a terrible thing, and we need to do more to let those who are considering it that there are people out there who can help.
